The Call To Love

The Call To Love

What are you called to do on this earth?

The question might come as a surprise and spark some doubt and confusion in your mind, but believe it or not, you are indeed called to this earth to complete a specific mission. It may sound like a daunting task, but rest assured it isn’t.

As diverse as God has created us, the callings He has bestowed upon us vary in difference. In 1 Peter 4:10 NLT it is written “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another”. Note that the verse doesn’t pinpoint a specific person, but indicates that “each” person has been given a gift. This gift can be equated to being called.

So what is my calling, you might be wondering.

Well, the Bible emphasizes the fact that we are called to love.

Matthew 22:38-39 reads: “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbour as yourself”.

Furthermore, the love we are called to execute is described in the Bible in 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7 NLT as “patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance”.

Even God confirms that His love for us was demonstrated when he sacrificed His

one and only Son, Jesus Christ: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son. Whoever puts his trust in God’s Son will not be lost but will have life that lasts forever.” (John 3:16 NLT)

So there you have it, love is our highest calling and from love stems other callings such as helping the less fortunate, sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and encouraging and inspiring others. Ultimately, it all translates into love.

We are called to love because God is love and He loves us unconditionally.

Dear friends, let us love each other, because love comes from God. Those who love are God’s children and they know God. Those who do not love do not know God because God is love. God has shown His love to us by sending His only Son into the world. God did this so we might have life through Christ. This is love! It is not that we loved God but that He loved us. For God sent His Son to pay for our sins with His own blood. – 1 John 4: 7-10 NLT
